My LPIC-1 Certification

Finally, I got my first I.T. certification! It is the LPIC-1 or the Linux Professional Institute Certified Level 1 (jr administrator).

I have been a Linux user for almost two years now. I remember my first week of using Linux. It was Kubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn. I have searched the Internet on learning materials, books and magazines about Linux. Then I stumbled upon a certification named UCP or Ubuntu Certified Professional. From that moment, I dream about being one. Checking out the information regarding UCP, I found out that before having it, I should pass two exams LPI 101 and 102 to become LPIC-1 and be eligible to take the UCP examination. So I gathered a lot of learning materials particularly tutorials from different sites including the Linux Documentation Project at

I also read Robert Smith’s LPIC-1 Linux Professional Institute Certification Study Guide (Exams 101 and 102) as my primary reviewer for the exam.
I passed my LPI 101 exam on May 19, 2008 and my LPI 102 exam on January 7, 2009.

I learned about many things about Linux in a vendor neural fashion. I’m now reviewing for my UCP examination.
